The opportunity to engage in research as an undergraduate student was pivotal in Hatfull's decision to pursue a career in science. This experience convinced Hatfull and his colleagues to set up a program that allows undergraduates and high school students, to participate in isolating bacteriaphage. Hatfull makes a case for allowing all curious students to engage in authentic research.
